Your Appointment
SALT SPRING CHIMNEY SWEEPS INC. – Wood-Burning Appliance Cleaning
Professional Service. Thorough Cleaning. Peace of Mind.
Thank you for choosing us to service your wood-burning appliance. We want your appointment to be simple, convenient, and straightforward.
Below you’ll find everything you need to know about preparing for your appointment, what to expect during the service, payment options, and our cancellation policy.
Before Your Appointment
Please Let the Fire Go Out!
For your safety and to allow us to properly service your appliance:
Please do not add fuel to the fire after 6:00 p.m. on the day before your appointment.
The appliance must be sufficiently cool before it can be serviced.
Access to Your Home
Access to the inside of your home is required to properly service your wood-burning appliance. Please ensure that we can easily access the appliance when we arrive.
What Happens During Your Appointment?
1. We Arrive Prepared
We’ll arrive with all the tools, equipment, and protective drop cloths needed to complete the job properly.
2. Show Us the Appliance
Simply show us the wood-burning appliance or appliances you would like serviced, and we’ll take it from there.
3. We Determine the Best Sweeping Method
We’ll assess the appliance and determine whether the chimney should be swept from inside the home or from outside.
4. We Protect and Clean Your Space
There’s no need to prepare the area ahead of time.
We bring our own drop cloths to protect your floors and surrounding areas.
Once the sweeping is complete, we’ll thoroughly clean the work area and vacuum both inside and outside of the appliance.
5. Ash Removal
We recommend keeping approximately 1–2 inches of ash in your appliance.
If there is more than 2 inches, we’ll remove the excess while leaving the recommended amount behind.
A small amount of ash helps insulate the coals and can make starting your next fire easier.
6. Review and Questions
Once the cleaning and vacuuming are complete, we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have about:
- Your appliance’s performance
- Residue or buildup found during the cleaning
- The condition of the appliance
- Any concerns noticed during the service
We believe in keeping you informed about the condition and operation of your wood-burning appliance.
Your Invoice & Service Records
You’ll receive a carbon-copy invoice for your records.
Prefer Paperless?
No problem. If you prefer, we can email your invoice instead of leaving a paper copy.
Repairs & Issues
During the sweeping process, we may notice repairs, maintenance concerns, or other issues with the appliance or chimney.
Any concerns we identify will be noted on your invoice.
Important: WETT Inspections
A chimney sweeping service is not a WETT inspection.
If your insurance company requires a specific WETT inspection, this is a separate service and we can refer you to a qualified inspector.
Please let us know when booking if you require an inspection so we can send you the contact information.
If minor repairs are identified, we may be able to return at a later scheduled appointment to complete the work.
Safety Comes First
The safety of you, your family, and your home is our priority.
In rare circumstances, we may decline to sweep an appliance if we determine that it is hazardous or does not meet applicable safety requirements.
If this happens, we’ll explain the concern and recommend the appropriate corrective action before the appliance is used again.
Payment Options Accepted:
Cash • e-Transfer
If paying by e-transfer, please include your invoice number in the reference or message field. e-Transfers can be sent to:

Our Cancellation Policy
We understand that unexpected things happen and plans sometimes need to change. However, because appointments are scheduled specifically for each customer, we require 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or changes.
48-Hour Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify us at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment.
Cancellations or changes made less than 48 hours before the appointment will be subject to a charge of 50% of the scheduled service fee.
This fee must be paid before another appointment can be scheduled. The regular service fee will then apply again when the new appointment takes place.
Avoiding a Cancellation Charge
If you cannot be home for your appointment, consider arranging for someone you trust to provide access to the home.
This can help you avoid a cancellation charge and allows us to complete the scheduled service.
No-Show / No-Access Policy
A full-service charge will apply if we are unable to access your appliance at the scheduled date and time.
This includes situations such as:
- No one being available to provide access
- The appointment being forgotten
- A fire being left burning in the appliance, making it unsafe to service
Once the applicable charge has been paid, we can discuss scheduling another appointment. The regular service fee will apply again when the appliance is serviced.
Thank You for Choosing Us
We appreciate your business and your cooperation in helping us provide a safe, thorough, and professional service.
If you have any questions before your appointment, please don’t hesitate to ask.
We look forward to keeping your wood-burning appliance clean, safe, and ready for use!
